The North Bay Shiai was started in 2009 by DeLeon Judo and Seika Ryu martial arts.
DeLeon Judo's Sensei Henry Kaku has kept the tournament going in partnership with the other judo clubs in the North Bay ever since.
The North Bay Shiai is currently a developmental tournament. That means we are still in the building phase of what we hope will be a weekend destination tournament.
This tournament is a good entry-level tournament for beginners to experience the sport aspect of Judo. It is also great for seasoned kyu rank players, as it attracts many ages and skill levels. New last year are recreational Black Belt pools. This is intended for recreational Black belts who want to try competition, NOT intended for the serious competitors.
The tournament runs fairly fast and we normally end in early afternoon.
The tournament is also the testing ground for new referees who completed the class at DeLeon the day prior.
There is much to do in the surrounding areas, including many wineries, breweries, music venues, river and lake leisure and historical attractions.
The area is family-friendly and easily accessible.
